Taiwan, Republic of China |
Taiwan (Formosa) is the principal island in the Republic of China. The island was under Japanese control from 1895 until the end of World War 2 in 1945 when the island reverted to China. Our postcards all date from before WW2 and thus from the period of Japanese rule. Since WW2 Taiwan has been under the ROC whose forces under Chiang Kai-shek were defeated by the Communists and retreated to the island. Naturally Taiwan is still claimed by the Peoples' Republic of China |
